Drive Safely During the Holiday Season

It’s a busy time of year for traveling. Families get together for annual gatherings, employers host holiday parties, and friends meet for a fun gift exchange. The holidays are a wonderful time of year, but it’s important to be aware of more traffic on the roads as you attend events on your jam-packed calendar.

Here are some tips to keep you, your family and friends, and your pets safe on the road this holiday season.

Make sure the vehicle is prepped and ready.

The holiday season means winter is here. Make sure your vehicle is properly maintained for travel and prepared for winter conditions - examine your tire tread, check your oil, fill up the antifreeze, and double-check your battery.

Map your route.

Check your destination and figure out your route before driving. This will help you avoid traffic, unfamiliar territory, and getting lost in inclement weather.

Be aware of your pets.

Traveling with pets this year? Make sure they are acclimated to the car before the big road trip. Take a few trips around the block or to the park to help reduce anxiety, and ensure your vehicle is equipped with proper pet traveling gear. Consider looking into a doggie seat belt or harness as an extra precaution for both your safety and your pet’s.

Be aware of alcohol.

Do not drink and drive. Always choose a designated driver for your holiday party - it’s always better to plan ahead and be safe. On the same note, be a defensive driver. Holiday parties often include alcohol. While you may not be drinking and driving, that doesn’t mean someone else  made the same responsible choice. Be extra cautious when driving at night, early in the morning, and through intersections.

The holidays are a magical time filled with joy, family, and friends, but they also bring extra risks when traveling in a vehicle. As your trusted local agent, Rumbaugh Insurance ensures you are properly protected. Call us for a review today!
